Skyline Technologies and Goodwill NCW Win Microsoft's "Develop Without Borders" Challenge
05/25/07
Green Bay, WI – Skyline Technologies Inc., Green Bay, and Goodwill NCW announce that their joint entry was awarded Third Prize in the 2007 Microsoft Office system Develop Without Borders solutions challenge. Nancy Coonen, Goodwill NCW Chief Information Officer, Rick Sense, Goodwill NCW Director of Development and Webmaster, and Chris Fleming, Skyline Technologies Director of Microsoft Solutions, presented Goodwill NCW and Skyline Technologies' entry to Microsoft's Community Judging Board in a live one-on-one web cast late last year.
Microsoft's Develop Without Borders Challenge, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, awarded prizes worth more than $160,000 to winning developers and charities that submitted projects from all over the world. The Goodwill NCW and Skyline Technologies' entry was chosen as one of only 20 finalists and 11 winners worldwide. The other 19 selected finalists' applications were submitted from the countries of Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, India, the Philippines, and the United States.
The challenge was designed to encourage developers and charities to work together to develop projects that would use at least 2 Microsoft products or technologies from the 2007 Microsoft Office system.
The Goodwill NCW/Skyline Technologies entry focused on Beyond Boundaries of Autism, and how to best apply Microsoft solutions for this important Goodwill NCW program. Beyond Boundaries of Autism (BBA) was established in March of 2004 as a program of Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin. The agency provides in-home therapy services for children with autism. In nearly three years of operation, BBA has grown from serving families in 2 counties to 15 counties and increased from serving 10 children to serving 160.
The proposed project will use Microsoft products and technology to help eliminate some of the challenges faced by BBA as it serves people spread out over a wide geographical area across Wisconsin. Through this project, Goodwill NCW and Skyline Technologies look to streamline and improve workflow processes, improve data exchange and security, create greater efficiency, allow families to access resources online, and provide training libraries for consistent and on-demand staff training.
