SQL 2012 and Mobile BI Roadmap Announced

At the Processional Association for SQL Server (PASS) summit Ted Kummert, Microsoft Corporate VP Business Platform, made several announcements about SQL Denali. For starters, the worldwide announcement of the release date for Denali was made – SQL 2012 will available in the first half of 2012.

Business Intelligence Dashboards – What are YOU looking for?

For many of us, it can be very hard to explain what we want out of a dashboard – but we know what we like when we see it.  

I had the opportunity to attend Microsoft’s Tech Ed BI Conference - held in June, 2010 – and sit through several presentations that focused on what makes up a good dashboard, and see examples of dashboards in action.  As I was watching these presentations I was hoping that I would have the chance to share some of them with our clients.  Fortunately many of them were recorded and are now available on the web. Chris Fleming Business Intelligence by Microsoft - How Do You Like Me Now?

One of the car commercials for this year’s Super Bowl featured a driving beat from a UK band called “The Heavy”.  It sported hip guitar licks while the lead singer belted out “How You like Me Now”? Perhaps I frustrate the Nielsen television commercial raters because this ad turned my thoughts not to the car it was promoting but to Business Intelligence on Microsoft’s platform.

The analyst community has a lot to like about Microsoft’s Business Intelligence (BI) platform.   For the third year in a row, Gartner has acknowledged Microsoft as a leader in both the Business Intelligence Platforms as well as the Data Warehouse Database Management Systems Magic Quadrant. Leaders in the Magic Quadrant, of course, are those who have completeness of vision and the best ability to execute on that vision.
