Skyline Technologies Helps Client with More than IT

On Saturday, October 17, 2009 Skyline Technologies’ employees and their families descended upon Maple Valley Orchard in Gillett to lend a hand to orchard owner and Skyline client Tony Dembski. Like many area orchards, Maple Valley has a bumper crop of apples this year. Dembski and his wife, Maxine, decided that they wanted to donate their excess apples to area food pantries but could not keep up with picking them on their own.

“I thought this would be a great opportunity for Skyline to give back to our community, so I volunteered to get a team together to help pick apples,” said John Kring, President and COO of Skyline Technologies. “As soon as I brought this opportunity back to our associates, they jumped at the chance to help. Within an hour they had found food banks willing to take the apples and I had a dozen people and their families commit to spending Saturday morning picking.”

The team met at the orchard at 9:00 on Saturday morning and within a few hours had picked nearly seventy five bushels of apples – enough to fill two pick-up trucks and an SUV! The apples were delivered to Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay as well as to the Harbor House, the Emergency Shelter, and COTS in the Fox Valley.

“It was great to have the Skyline group help out” said Dembski, “we have so many apples right now they barely scratched the surface. But, what seems like a little to us means a lot to the folks in need of food; I’m glad the apples went to those who need them.”

In an effort to continue supporting Maple Valley and local charities, a group of Skyline associates is planning to visit the orchard again this weekend to pick more apples which will be donated to the NEW Zoo in Green Bay.

Skyline Associates and family members enjoyed the crisp weather and delicious apples while picking fruit to help local charities.
